It is basically a collaborative work done by both the partners.

What Relationship Counselling is NOT:

  1. You wont be given any advice or opinion as to what should be done. It’s your relationship, and you along with your partner will fix it.
  2. You wont be told whether you should stay together or separate. That remains your sole decision.
  3. Counsellors are not someone who criticize or judge, so it’s a safe space to talk about your private issues, which counsellor will help resolving.

Overall AIM of the Therapy:

  1. Understand how external factors such as family values, religion, lifestyle and culture affect your relationship.
  2. Reflect on the past and how it operates in the present.
  3. Communicate in a more constructive way.
  4. Learn why arguments escalate.
  5. Negotiate and resolve conflicts where possible.

As your counselling sessions progress, you and your partner may find a way of overcoming your problems, or you may decide it is time to part ways. Either way, hopefully counselling will offer you the space to grow and decide what you would like the future to hold for both of you.
